ACRA - Rules Committee

1. Program Eligibility

Crews meeting the following criteria are invited to attend the regatta:

- Any program defined as a club sport by their institution, regardless of the institutions affiliation with the NCAA.

- Any program that is defined as a varsity program by their institution but their institution is not an NCAA member institution. This would include varsity programs at institutions that are members of the NAIA and NJCAA.

2. Shirt Betting

Shirt Betting will be strongly encouraged for both Men and Women. A box on the entry form will indicate whether an institution is betting shirts or not. Any institution must either participate with all its entries or none. If the institution chooses NOT to participate then they can NOT win/accept any shirts.

3. 2nd Varsity Entries

An institution must enter and race a varsity boat of the same size, weight and gender classification in order to enter 2nd varsity events.

4. Weight Requirements

Coxswain minimum weights. Male events- 125 lbs. Female events- 110 lbs. Lightweight men’s events- 155 lbs. crew average. 160lbs maximum individual weight.

Lightweight women’s events - Individual maximum under 130lbs.

5. Weigh-in Procedures

Scales will be open for unofficial use at 12pm Friday.

Crews and Coxswains will only have to make one weigh-in during the competition. Crews must weigh-in together in racing attire (shirt & shorts or unisuit).

Crew weigh-ins are Friday (time TBD). There will be an early morning weigh-in for crews who missed Friday from (time TBD) on Saturday. If there is a final only, the participants will weigh-in Saturday (time TBD).

If any individual is more than 2lbs from the maximum weight, that individual will be excluded from competition. If an individual is within 2 lbs of the max they will have two more tries within one hour of the initial weigh-in to make weight. If the individual fails to make the weight in the one hour or third attempt (whichever occurs first) that individual will be excluded from competition.

Men’s crews who do not make the 155lbs. average on their first attempt will have two more attempts within one hour of the initial weigh-in. If the crew fails to make the average weight within that hour or by the third attempt (whichever occurs first) that crew will be excluded from competition.

An alternate can be used by a crew that does not make weight but must weigh-in with the crew and within the guidelines stated above.

A crew that fails to make weight will NOT be permitted to enter another event.

Coxswains will weigh-in in racing attire (shirt & shorts or Unisuit). Sand will be provided for coxswains under the minimum up to 10lbs. If an individual requires more they will be responsible for providing the extra weight. Coxswain weights will be kept at Regatta headquarters before and after each competition.

6. Frosh/Novice

Former rowers are considered novice coxswains if they are in their first year of competition as a coxswain. Former coxswains are considered novice if they are in their first year of competition as a rower.

7. USRowing Rules Apply

USRowing rules of racing apply unless otherwise stated by the ACRA. Includes all safety procedures. (bowballs, heel ties, etc)

8. Protest Committee

US Rowing protest procedures will be followed by a committee made up of the; Chief Referee, Regatta Director, and an Ombudsman hired by the ACRA to serve in this capacity.

9. Seeding Procedures

See seeding committee’s guidelines.

10. Cancellation Policies Due to Inclement Weather

Lunch breaks will be eliminated first.

This will be followed in order of priority by eliminating; 3rd level finals, petite finals, All small boats (2-,2X, 1x), novice fours, varsity fours, Men’s JV8, f/n eights, lwt. eight, varsity eights.

11. Substitutions

Substitutions are permitted only by the approval of the Regatta Director. Substitutions for illness or injury shall be judged in accordance with USRowing Rules of Racing. Substitutions for academically related or other reasons shall be judged in accordance with the same principles as for injury/illness and is up to the discretion of the Regatta Director.

12. Exclusions

Any institution that fails to show up for its final will be excluded from the following year’s regatta.
