Seeding Process

Seeded Events

Events: MV8, MLt8, MFN8, WV8, WN8

These two events will be seeded by all of the HEAD COACHES of teams entered in the event by a vote.

a)

The vote is to be placed by the head coach, and not one of the assistants or team officers.

b)

This will be done online a week prior to the championship, and everyone’s initial vote will be able to be viewed only by all the other head coaches.

c)

The head coach MUST vote for their own crew in the poll.

d)

The coach will have the ability to change their vote one time within two days of the closing.

e)

After the second day, all voting is final.

f)

At this point everyone’s vote WILL BE MADE PUBLIC.
(NOTE: By the head coaches voting for their own crews it allows us to proceed with the poll even if a delinquent coach does not submit a vote. It also allows for a random club team without a coach to be voted on. I am strongly opposed to athletes voting. If we didn’t allow coaches to vote for their own crews, then it would be required to get EVERY entry a voting representative. By the votes being public coaches will have to justify their votes, or risk looking as if they are favoring.

g)

The seeded crews will be sorted into heats according to the poll results. EVERY CREW WILL BE GIVEN A SEED.

Sorted Events

Events: M2V8, MV4+, MLt4+, MFN4+, WV4+, WLt4+, WN4+

This is an attempt to separate crews who have remained intact through the racing season, and performed well at a major championship regatta. The goal is to try and create regional diversity in all of the heats.

This will be a responsibility of the Regatta Director, and 2 other designated members of the Event sub-committee. They will propose the placements, and then finalization of the placements will be made by the Executive Board.

This is not an attempt to place every entered crew. Results will be looked at PRIMARILY from the Dad Vail regatta, ECAC NIRC, and WIRA, with consideration given to the SIRA, Indianapolis Invitational, NY States, New England Championships, PCRC, and Knecht Cup, with a goal of splitting up crews who competed against each other in the Grand Finals at those events. Also, so that the winners of those events are not all “stacked” into the same heat. Once that has been done, the remainder of the field will be determined by random draw.

The same progression system for the seeded events will be used.

Time Trial Events

Events: M2-, M2x, M1x, W2-, W2x, W1x

An initial starting order will be determined by using the same system as SORTED crews, trying to make an effort to place known fast crews to the front. Other crews will be randomly placed behind them.

The time trial will be conducted using just one lane, if possible. The finals will be sorted in the following way, based strictly on the results of the time trial:

Places 1-6: Grand Final
Places 7-12: Petite Final
Places 13-18: 3rd Level Final
Places 19-24: 4th Level Final
And so on in 6 place increments.
